BMD video playback is not available in Premiere Pro CC
on Jul 30, 2013 at 3:26:20 pm

Hey all,

I am running PrPro CC with an UltraStudio 3D via thunderbolt using BMD Desktop Video 9.7.9 and it is not showing up as a playback option in Premiere Pro's Prefs. Can anyone help me in getting this set up. It used to work just fine with CS6.

thanks

Did you install the Blackmagic driver/software after the Cloud install?

I'm having the same issue, no monitor output, but using DeckLink Studio and Premiere v7.0.1. Today I installed the latest BMD driver, 9.7.7. While playback prefs show the BMD device, it's not available as an option. I'm also running Avid Media Composer v7 and output works just fine.

Would anyone know where the drives are supposed to be installed? Perhaps they are not in the right folders?

The Blackmagic Device listing on preview settings is the Blackmagic card you have. That is how it's listed now. Just checkmark that listing as the full screen display out.

That option is grayed out, it cannot be chosen. Therein lies the issue.

Do you have Avid or AE launched at the same time?

The only time I have seen this is when another application has locked down the Blackmagic card or the card is not initializing. Does AE see the card?

I'm not a big AE user on that workstation and had not checked the output until you asked. Interestingly enough, AE sees the BMD card just fine and the output displayed to my monitor. I then quit AE, opened Premiere, but nothing had changed there. The BMD option is still grayed out and not an option.

What player do you have set in the preview settings? Set it to the Adobe Player and see if the option lights up.

None of the options, including Adobe Player, are available. They are all grayed out.

Ok you may need to Re-install the Adobe suite then. I have never seen that greyed out. Make sure you uninstall the Blackmagic before you do.

After Creative Cloud, re-installing PrPro, is not easy. Huge download.

This morning I uninstalled the BMD drivers, then uninstalled Premiere. I downloaded and installed the latest version of the Adobe Cloud Manager. Next, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Premiere. Before I installed the BMD drivers I launched Premiere and looked at the settings for Playback. There were three options, Adobe DV, Adobe Monitor 1 and Adobe Monitor 2. All were grayed out and none could be chosen.

I then installed BMD desktop video 9.7.7. I re-launched Premiere and looked at Playback Preferences. The system showed Blackmagic Playback as well as the three Adobe options. All were still grayed out and none could be chosen.

Have you tried resetting Premiere Pro preferences? (Re-install may not have cleared them.)

"To restore default preference settings, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while the application is starting. You can release the Alt key or Option key when the splash screen appears."

(Sorry if this has already been tried and/or suggested.)

Any suggestion at this point is good, thanks. And yes, I did delete Premiere prefs when I uninstalled the app.

Did you ever get this resolved? What was the solution?

Yes, the issue was resolved. In the Program Monitor pull down menu is a function called "Transmit". When enabled the signal is output to an external monitor. When disabled, nothing goes out. Somehow I had disabled Transmit through some unknown key stroke combination.
