BMD Decklink HD Extreme 3 Closed Captioning

Okay I've been having issues getting closed captioning to print to tape from FCP 7 through my Decklink HD Extreme 3. I am curious if this card is not capable of passing through Closed captioning, and the only info I can find is for the Decklink Extreme 3d.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, or someone to validate my suspicions.

Also wondering on this. We just got the 4k, so far no luck on the captioning. In or Out. Anyone have luck here?

Did you get this to resolve? Having the same issues getting a CPC generated 708 caption file inserted onto a HDCAMSR.

We discovered it was partially an OS issue, the decklink wouldn't pass timecode on old drivers and we couldn't upgrade drivers on out Leopard systems. We never did generate anything in 708 even our HD stuff went out with the 608 captions forced into 708 via compressor. Hope this helps if you need to know anything else I can try to help more.

Thanks for sharing that. That could be our problem too. How did you force 608>708?

As we speak, I'm trying a Kona 3. See if I have better luck.

Allegedly, to recapture the captions if you have a Blackmagic card, you have to do it at 10bit uncompressed. http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7670 Not ideal.

There is an option in compressor to add a .SCC file when encoding. The only problem is even in HD encoding it takes the 608 cations and just puts them in 708.

And luckily we don't typically have to worry about capturing with captions. But from what I remember normally that line will capture.

I've decided the way captions are done needs to be rethought. Why can't we just put them in readable metadata, so tired of archaic broadcast standards.

Interesting. I'd guess 608>708 container aren't considered "true 708" captions. So I wonder if most broadcasters would accept them.

Found out it's easy with an LHi. Just use VTR exchange.
