BM 8bit codec not showing in AE
on Mar 8, 2012 at 10:27:32 am

Hi,

working on a new iMac with BM Ultrastudio 3D Thunderbolt.

When wanting to render a SD QT Movie file in AE CS5.5 I can choose BM 10bit but the BM 8bit codec is not showing.

What could be the reason for that?

Thank you.

Jan

Do you mean the BMD rgb 10bit codec? BMD uses the apple uncompressed 4:2:2 8bit & 10bit codec for YUV sources. I don't believe there ever had been an 8bit rgb codec.

The codecs I can choose are:

- Blackmagic RGB 10 Bit
- Uncompressed YUV 10 bit 422
- Uncompressed YUV 8 bit 422

Or do these last ones also use Blackmagic?

thx

Those are the correct codecs. You should use the apple codecs for YUV files.

Juan, it looks like he is on a PC, which only gives you those codec options with BMD's capture software. Which in itself is very annoying but a fact of life unless you fork out for 3rd party capture software.

I'm on a brand new Mac.

Funny that all the right codecs do show up in AE CS4.

I have uninstalled and installed everything again, but nothing helps so far.

What codec is it you think you're missing? By the looks of the list you sent you have all the uncompressed codec? Are you looking for prores, etc?

Again as in reply to your first post. The BlackMagic cards do not use the BlackMagic codec for uncompressed, except for RGB 4:4:4 10bit. All of the YUV codec ( the kind you would use in standard definition ) are infact apple uncompressed 4:2:2 8bit & 10bit. These are the correct codecs for uncompressed.

Yep, I guess you're right, I double checked the manual and those are the codecs BM uses.
I was just used to working in AE CS4 but that seems to be different.

So this is solved.

thank you
