A PC laptop that works with the Intensity Shuttle?
on Feb 23, 2012 at 6:23:36 am

I just gave up trying to get an HP Envy 17 to work with the Shuttle. Who has a Windows laptop that is still in production that works with this equipment? Tech support said that the only laptop they had tested was an MSI that is no longer available.

My ASUS G53SW works fine with it.

EDIT:
I bought my parents a ASUS G73 for Christmas, I will try it out on their laptop this weekend.

Yeah, originally the envy 15" (first gen) worked, and it was the first laptop with USB3. Then they re-reved it and the 14,15 and 17 did not work (they changed where the controller was situation on the motherboard).

Since then we've had a rough time finding laptops that work appropriately. We've got an HP that is coming to us for testing that was promising (customer reported it working) so we are waiting for our labs to confirm that.

I'd love to hear about the Asus (we've tried a few earlier versions). Tough things with laptops is they are constantly coming out and we simply cannot buy or even get all of them on loan. So we can only suggest the ones we know for sure will work. On the desktop side it's a bit better, but the USB3 add in boards work very well. But it's not really as important on the desktop side because you can always just buy a PCI-e version of the board instead.

But yeah, would love to hear the feedback on this.

Sincerely,

Joshua

I'm using an RF511-S02 (samsung) with usb drivers updated manually (not with the software samsung provide) and everything it's working fine (also I have quite NONE input lag).

Hey Joshua, Did you get a chance to look at the HP laptop and does it work?

I am using Pavilion dm4, which I got couple months ago. And it has couple USB 3.0s.

Not yet, we had a live 4-hour telethon this past weekend. I'll be back up to the studio later this week though, so I'll try it then.

Thanks for the reminder though!

Hello, did you find out if the G73 worked? We're looking to buy one for use with the Shuttle

I actually did not, but will have access to it this weekend, so I'll definitely give it a go.

Tested it yesterday, the G73 does indeed work, it has the exact same USB 3.0 chip as the G53.

Thanks for the test, it has helped us out. Also tested with a ACER TIMELINE 4830TG and it worked too. The Asus 53's and 73' and 74's and this Acer all have IntelĀ® HM65 Express chipsets, don't know if that's the determiner.

What kind of USB 3.0 controller does the Acer use? I know both the G53 and G73 use the Renease USB chip.

Hey Mike, do you know what model the ASUS that you tested was? Was it a G73JH?

I'm not sure. I'll be back over there this Tuesday, so I'll check and reply.

Do you think it would work with an ASUS N53SV-B1? You can google the name and see the exact specs on Newegg I would greatly appreciate your help, because I won't to know whether to buy the shuttle or re-buy a HD PVR (I sold my old one)
