UpDownCross from 720p59.94 to 720p50?

Will the UpDownCross convert from 720p 59.94 to 720p 50?

GoToMeeting only accepts 720p50 sources (even in the US), and my cameras will only output 1080i59.94 or 720p59.94

Will the UpDownCross convert from either of those formats to 720p50?

We have four of the OpenGear version of this card, and I played around with this sort of thing; I'm pretty sure it won't do it in one step. What it can do is downconvert from 720p/60 or 1080i/60 to PAL (625/50); then a second converter can upconvert that to 720p/50. You would want to set the downconversion to anamorphic, and the upconversion to zoom, in order to restore the full 16:9 content.

The limitation is that the user interface infers the frame rate from the output format you select; if you select NTSC or PAL, it forces the frame rate to 60 or 50 respectively, but selecting 720p or 1080i makes the output frame rate match the input.

One other caveat: there's a known bug with the UDC and closed captions, wherein captions won't pass in certain combinations of input and output formats. I doubt this applies to your application, but it seemed worth mentioning.

The functional diagram on the Blackmagic website shows the "Format Conversion" and "Standards Converter" as 2 separate stages. However the dip switches only allow 4 possible output settings.

1080i
720p
NTSC
PAL

BTW, I always thought NTSC was 29.97 for some reason

[Chad Pearson] "BTW, I always thought NTSC was 29.97 for some reason"

It is. 60 (59.94) is the field rate; I was having a decongestant moment. Nevertheless, when we got these cards I tried doing the 720p/60 > PAL / PAL > 720p/50 routine just out of curiosity, and our test set claimed that the result was indeed 720p/50. Seemed like an interesting novelty at the time... had no idea it would have practical application, since Syracuse New York isn't exactly a hot spot for needing international standards conversion!

Will the UpDownCross downconvert from 1080i or 720p to 480p or does the NTSC setting only convert to 480i?

The 2 online meeting services we use (GoToMeeting and Adobe Connect) seem to have very specific resolution / frame rate requirements (720p50 for GoToMeeting, and 480p60 for Adobe Connect), and I need my camera (which does 1080i, 720p, or 480i) into one of those formats.

Sorry... the NTSC setting is strictly 480i. It would have been nice for Blackmagic to make the resolution, frame rate, and interleave / progressive scan options independent, but it doesn't work that way -- at least, with current revision software.
