Hyperdeck Shuttle mount?
on Jul 28, 2011 at 6:57:21 am

Hi there,

I would like to know if there is a solution for the Hyperdeck Shuttle to mount it on a camera? Maybe a cage, dock or something like this with some 3/8" threads...

Rafael

The back plane of the Hyperdeck is a sheet metal(aluminum) place held in place by four screws located under the rubber mat. Removal of these 4 screws is quite simple. I replaced the sheet metal plate with a 1/4 inch Al plate tapped with two 1/4x20 holes to mount a 15mm rail block. I can now mount the Hyperdeck perpendicular and on its side with the controls facing up. This works like a champ, and is convenient.

I really like it. The images are incredible. Despite the complaints about its "plastic" feel, I find it every bit as solid as my EX1 and considerably lighter. The EX1 has some deep menus that are cumbersome to access. This camera has all controls connected to easily accessible buttons. And of course, I like the interchangeable lenses. My only complaint is somewhat nit-picky. The 1080P60 format is new and not widely accepted by 3rd party apps. This should change, in time, tho'.

Are you finally able to record from your FS100 to the Shuttle?

Hey Guys.
here's a quick ready made solution which works well for above camera (handle) mounting to 3/8" holes.

Just in case the link doesn't work - cardellini clamp / skinny mini. I have one. Tested. All good.

cheers

Hi Guys,
Can you tell me how i format my SSD for use in the Shuttle, my SSD is a SATA111 Vortex3.?
The Mac Pro will not do the format, as you know it must be HFS+.

Do you have an external dock (which you need to format the SSD)?

Ok , so how do you format your SSDs, do you use a PC or a MAC?. At present i have a Hyperdeck Shuttle and a SSD which are useless.
PS The SSD is a OCZ 240GB Vertex3 recommended by Blackmagic.

I have the same SSD.

I do work on a Mac. To format the disk you need the SSD in an external dock that it´s recognized by the disc formatting tool from OSX. Within that program you select the SSD disc icon (which is the upper icon not the icon below) and select the erase tab, choose "extended journaled" and start the formatting process.
You should now be able to record on the Hyperdeck.

In fact I know in what situation you are - it didn´t work here for some time as well but now everything is fine. A bit confusing are the LEDs on the Hyperdeck. SSD is flashing only when it´s in read/write state, but it doesn´t indicate that a correct formatted SSD is inserted.

I don´t know how to format an SSD on a PC as HFS+ - as far as I know you´ll need a special program to format for HFS+.

Hope that helped.

As stated i use a Mac Pro, i connect the dock to the Mac via USB but the SSD does not show up in the disk utility, i have two SSDs so the fault is not with the drives. If i can"t see it i can format. What SSDs do you use and what docking station have you got?.

As I said I have the OCZ Vertex 3 240GB, too.
I have a simple USB dock from Sharkroom (to be precise: it´s a Quickstore Portable Pro) - the SSD showed up instantly in the disc utility. I remember we´d an issue with a SSD and a dock these days on a shooting (not my dock, not my SSD), maybe you just try out another dock.

on a PC I use a 14 dollar Diablotek interface and TransMac software and the disks formatted with no problem (used a trial of TransMac). I expect to use a Ubuntu laptop to transfer the files from the ssd to NTFS formatted usb drives. The ubuntu machine can read the HFS+ file system and NTFS. I just couldn't figure out a way to format the disk in Ubuntu. Quite possibly I could have done it on Ubuntu if I had spent more then 5 minutes trying.
