REPLY - don't be confused it's easy. There is no Blackmagic documentation, but it's all self explanatory when you get it.

but this needs some cutting on budget

REPLY - all the cards are $495 US, and they work very well.

can i buy frame's at blackmagic.

REPLY - yes. Places like B&H Photo sell the Opengear chassis. It's really a ROSS chassis with a Blackmagic sticker on it. Blackmagic does not modify the chassis.

are backplane's included??

REPLY - YES, backplanes are included with every card, and even the little audio adaptors for analog audio are included as well.

if they supply frame's can i use cards from say ross or cobalt

REPLY - they don't "supply" the frames - they buy the frames from Ross (so does Cobalt Digital - they buy from Ross as well). You can put in any Opengear card into these frames. They are all ROSS frames - If you get a Blackmagic frame it's really a ROSS frame. If you buy a Cobalt Digital frame, it;s really a ROSS frame. Any Opengear card will work. I recently did a job with a Cobalt frame, with all Blackmagic cards, except for Sencore Demodulator cards, which work perfectly as well.

are there plan's for distrubution amplifiers ???

REPLY - boy, I hope so. I put in the black/sync generator, but Blackmagic currently does not offer an analog video DA card. AS you probably know, all the other Opengear cards are EXPENSIVE. I would love to see an analog video DA card from Blackmagic for $495.

This is a great product line. There are no manuals - you simply look at the silk screening on the circuit boards, and it clearly tells you what the connectors are, and what the DIP switches do.
But it would be nice if Blackmagic had a "manual" on their website, showing some sort of instruction for these cards.

The beauty of openGear is that you can select from different manufacturers at different quality/price points. Ross Video, usually associated at the higher end of the quality/price scale in the openGear platform, does offer an analog utility DA for $280 USD List, and an equalizing version for only $100 more. These include rear modules with looping inputs.

hi bob/brad

a lot of answers i wanted to hear.
i guess it will be blackmagic then.
it is almost ridiculous how cheap these cards are
now i have to google for some nice HD-SDI DA cards
and indeed a analog DA for REF
in the opengear style (any suggestions).

thanks a lot

Maurice -
he just suggested the Ross analog DA.

BUT I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ! You want to google this, without calling a BROADCAST Value Added Reseller - you just want to find the prices on line, like B&H Photo, or Markertek, or Videoguys, etc. Many of these companies WILL NOT let web dealers sell their products. The only exception I am aware of is Cobalt Digital, which you can google over the web. but if you want Ross, or any other partner that deals with Opengear, you MUST make a phone call to a dealer.

Each of the cards take 2 spaces so just double the number of cards. It's a bit of a sales tactic. "It has 20 slots for cards (but really it only holds 10 cards in a frame!)".

Frame 1: (20:20 slots full)
- 3 embedders you need 6 slots
- 6 analog distro's you need 12 slots
- 1 Cobalt dual SDI distro amp 2 slots

Frame 2: (20:20 slots full)
- 2 Cobalt dual SDI distro amp 4 slots
- 8 Cobalt analog distro amp 16 slots

Two suggestions:
1. Buy the frame with the middle of the line network card. The middle of the line network card gives you the ability to label the cards in the Dashboard software,
2. If you run house reference to the frame, all of the cards get reference as well.

We, like Bob, have had really good luck with these cards. We are a church and use them for all of our down conversion and just added an embedder for our internet stream. They work great!
