Intensity Pro monitoring from FCP via HDMI
on Jan 7, 2011 at 7:48:54 pm

Hi,
I've been trying to dig through all the threads related to this so forgive me if it's been covered before.

I'm trying to monitor out from FCP via HDMI. The problem I have is that the video only shows the frame where the playback head is located on the timeline. The video will not playback in real time.

Do I need a high speed RAID to see real time or is it software related?

Here are my specs and settings:
Mac 12 core, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.6.5, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB VRAM
(I'm running dual monitors)
FCP 6.0.6
Blackmagic 3.9.1 (settings for this are default set to HDMI & Component output, no processing, 7.5 IRE checked)
I'm going HDMI to Panasonic Viera consumer LCD (supports up to 1080)
I'm mostly using P2 video at 720 (DVCProHD) or ProRes stuff
G-tech Firewire800 connection

I suspect my Firewire800 is the issue. Do I need a RAID to monitor FCP?

Thanks,
-Matt

No, you don't need a hard drive RAID to monitor video. You need the proper settings. In the VIEW>EXTERNAL>VIDEO PLAYBACK, you need to choose the settings that match your sequence. If 720p DVCPRO HD...the 720p 8-bit 59.94. If 1080iProRes. Then 1080i 59.94 10-bit.

THen VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I made sure that the settings were correct, even used the easy setup that Blackmagic provides. I set it up and even quit FCP and restarted to ensure the settings were set properly. The 720 DVCPro easy setup you mentioned was the exact one I was using.

Still only showing one frame where the playback head stops.

Not sure why. I'm wondering if anybody has the same equipment and software versions. If they are the same and it's working then I would know for sure.

Hi,
I see my error. I assumed the VIEW>EXTERNAL wasautomatic when making the easy setup and/or when I change the audio video prefs.

Thanks for the help!
