I was planning on purchasing a HD LInk or HD Link Pro to monitor video out of FCP to a Sony HDTV. However, before I buy I decided to run a test, I'm running video right from my AJA Kona 2 break out box right to my HDTV. Besides for being able to have audio and video thru a single HDMI cable what benefits are there with a HD Link box? More specifically, how much better is the video signal going to be with a HD Link?
you can run the analog component signal to the monitor directly (Y Pb Pr) and get the same effect. Same applies to Blackmagic products (like Decklink HD Extreme) - put Y Pb Pr signal into HD monitor, and get the full HD image, (using analog component HD) without spending any money. This is a VERY common setup.
thanks for the reply. So am I losing any quality? Seems like I'm only losing convenience of both audio and video on one cable with a HDMI cable. and the software extras that come with the HD Link products.
