Intensity Pro vs. Firewire for HDV->ProRes (FCP)

I've shot about 40 hours worth of footage for a documentary using the Sony HVR-V1U on HDV at 1080i 24p (well, 29.97 - you know how it works). I want to work with this in a format that I can take all the way through delivery without having to recapture and online, so my thoughts are these:

1. Capture to ProRes (regular, not HQ - any advantage with this source?) via Firewire, where it will remove the extra frames and leave me with a true 1920x1080 24P image.

2. Buy and capture via the Intensity Pro the same way as option #1, but via HDMI (any advantage?)

I'm curious if I will be able to monitor the 24-frame footage to an external monitor via either the HDMI or component outputs on the Intensity - anyone know?

Is it worth the $350 to get the intensity pro, or am I better off capturing via option #1 and saving the money?
