I'm trying to decide if starting to use the metadata tools in CS4-CS5 and P2 media management software would be worth changing over to.
This is the workflow we use now;
Photographer shoots onto a P2 card. When the card comes back in, the video is put onto a timeline. Shots that relate to each other are put together and fused out as single file with a name using 5 oor six keywords that are appropriate to whats in this file. This file is then sent to a network drive used just for b-roll.
When we need to look up b-roll , we use the search files and folders function built into microsoft. If we chose our keywords carefully, the search brings up one or more of these files. We scan them
quickly with vlc media player. If it is what we want, we copy (never link) this
file to our local array.
The weak point of this system is human laziness, the search function works well.
What advantage would attaching metadata to a video file have over the system just described?
