Prolific and highly respected broadcast designer Kurt Murphy has an eight-part series here at the Cow called "Creating a News Open." It's a great series and teaches many of the ideas and issues involved in broadcast identities and the remaking of the same.
In this series, he explores many facets of the design process and includes some creative uses of Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator -- available as Zaxwerks Pro Modeler to add many additional text powers to Maya -- and the series is a "must read" for anyone interested in broadcast design.
Part Eight: Basic Text, Path Text and Finishing the Arc Reflection
Join noted broadcast designer Kurt Murphy as he continues his exploration of the process of re-creating the on-air identity of a local broadcast affiliate in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. At the end of the animation, Kurt Murphy adds the titling for each heading (Local News, Morning News, etc.) using Basic Text. In this lesson, Kurt shows you some tricks to using Basic Text and follows with Path Text. And then... Finishes with the Arc Reflection. This is the completion of the series.
