DVD-R compatibility is around 75-80% of existing players. So while you cannot guarantee compatibility it's a fairly safe bet. DVDSP and Superdrive are a pretty good choice though you might have some extra steps to export from Media 100. DVD clips need to be 720X480 whereas Media 100 often outputs at 640X480 or 704X480. So you might need to do a bit of extra rendering.

For the price the only competing solution would be a standalone VCR style DVD recorder. These are very easy to use and offer faster compression- but they create a VHS tape-like DVD with very little interactive features while DVDSP allows you to make the same level of DVD as Hollywood(well almost (g)).
