Fascinating article and very inspirational. However most interesting is the fact that the story is considered Black History Month filler for networks. indeed George Lucas himself was told by the major studios that audiences would never go see a movie about African American war heroes and he wound up funding his movie himself. Now granted Lucas has gobs of cash but he made sure to tell everyone about it as a matter of principle.

Finally, it is a little known secret among the general public that the world's biggest retailer does not pay in advance for goods that it sells. The back end usually makes up for having to front the cash yourself but that must have made you nervous having to come up with even more money out of your own pockets.

Anyway, congratulations. I'll be buying a copy.

Mike,

Thanks for the comments and support! I am glad you found the story both fascinating and inspirational - that's why we pitched it to the Cow and its readers.

We continue to learn each day as we go along our journey of the self-funded documentary. We have been surprised by some of what we have stumbled upon as you mentioned; and yes, the expression "beg, borrow and steal" was used a number of times between August and December of last year. Thankfully we have a large group of support from friends and family, so we didn't have to steal anything to get our documentary copies into stores. And as for begging...

Thanks you for buying a copy - if you feel led, please buy a few copies for your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, ah, you get the deal. And once you buy your copy, feel free to write a review, or post a recommendation to your Facebook or Twitter pages.

Again, thank you for your comments, and I am glad you enjoyed the article. Also, I hope you enjoy the documentary!

Have a good one,

Denton

Thank you so much for this article. As a christian I am always curious about the place of a christian production company in the Media world. You were such an inspiration and encouragement to me. Keep making such awesome works of art and history!
