need assistant for documentary
by Sandra Haewsky on Oct 25, 2009 at 1:14:41 am

I am looking for a film student to help develop, film and edit a 30 minute documentary. It is a three week project which pays $1000.00. It involves some writing or research. Starts next week. Please email me at shaewsky@yahoo.com with film school experience.

Are film students really cheap- that's what I'm reading into this... Because most of the one's at my film school wouldn't be caught dead on a cheap gig if it didn't involve huffing coffee for Spielberg.

well yeah, they're cheap. They have to work their way into the industry like the rest of us did.

Some other bright guy here said it before: "They're cheaper because they'er worth it". You *might* get surprised occasionally by getting a true prodigy volunteering to work for peanuts and the experience, but usually you pay nuts, you get squirrels.

She offers opportunity.
It all depends on perspective, really. When out, I didn't look at it as being exploited. I saw it for what it was... an opportunity to get paid a little bit to learn more than I did when I was paying a college to learn a little.
All budgets don't allow A crews. This is where opportunity awaits hungry students.

How about hungry graduates? Like all film school graduates are suddenly well paid and not desperate? Not in this economy...

exactly. Hence the request for an assistant, I think.
