shooting in Canada
by Daniel Gold on Aug 29, 2008 at 2:51:04 pm

I am planning a trip to Ottawa Canada to shoot for a day on a US based documentary. I'm wondering if anyone has recently done this. My experience with traveling from the US to Canada for production has been nothing but serious obstruction from the Canadian customs officials.

The plan is for the producer and myself (DP) to drive from NY with an astro van that has lighting, grip, and a Panasonic HDX900 HIDEF package. We would pass thru Canadian customs and then return two days later back into the US. We would hire a Canadian sound person to work locally for a day.

Has anyone recently done anything like this? If so, did you pay for a work license and what Canadian entity was most helpful with the red tape?

Thanks!
