Permission for shooting stock footage....
by Marcelo Lewin on Oct 20, 2005 at 5:53:32 am

I want to shoot some stock footage that I would like to sell. Specifically, I live by LAX and there is a perfect location to film lots of airplanes landing. I'd like to sell those shots I take. What are the limitations of what I can show on the video? Do I need to get permission? If I show airline names, can I still sell the footage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

P.S. If this is not the place to post this question, I apologize. If you can guide me where it can be posted, I appreciate it.

If you haven't already, see the posting, "Fair Use in Docs" by John Burgan on 20 November. The "Statement" is a great primer on fair use. I picked up a couple of good tips, for example, company logos are fair game unless they contain a specific copyrighted item like a photograph. Copyrighted architecture is also always fair use if photographed from out in the public.

Good luck!
