Kona3 1080 to 525i Down-conversion is squeezed - Help!

Hi everyone -

I'm trying to output a 1080 23.98 sequence converted to 720x486 (525i) 29.97 for DigiBeta printing, but noticed that the output is squeezed. So I did a bit of test as following:

1. Drop the 1080 sequence into a 720x486 sequence: there's no squeeze or whatsoever on the output, BUT obviously, this method requires rendering

2. Set the Video Playback in FCP as 1080i 29.97 and the Secondary (Converted) Format in AJA Panel as 525i 29.29. Then, I check the letterbox option for the Down Conversion setting in AJA Panel: Here I see the output footage is squeezed.

As a result, I'm trying to figure out a way to properly output my video with no aspect ratio change!

I really appreciate your advice in advance.

then you have done something to the settings as the default setting for downconversion is letterbox.

trash your aja prefs and reboot the computer and it should clear.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your input. I still see the AJA is set for the letterbox option, which means I haven't done anything to its setting. Nevertheless, I will try to trash the preferences and see if that does it.
