why use kona 3 to up rez

It seems like everyday I read something about using kona 3 to up rez SD to HD but I thought if you drop an SD clip into an HD timeline FCP automatically up rezes it. If this is true why use the kona 3?

Because in a word, FCP's scaling sucks.

Not to mention when you take an SD clip and drop it into an HD timeline, very often the field order has to be reversed. Such as NTSC SD to NTSC 1080i HD.

The Kona 3 and Kona LHi upconversion is full broadcast quality in realtime.
