Cannot capture with 6.0
by sven giebel on Aug 22, 2008 at 9:50:50 am

Hi there!
After upgrading to version 6.0 I cannot capture pal DVCPro 50 via SDI. I'm in Pal land. When I open the log and capture tool trhe output format changes from 625/25i to 720p50. The picture is green glibberish and I have 720p50 on the digital video output side in the kona control panel. Before installing version 6 I deinstalled the former driver version 5.
I checked all settings but cannot find any hint towards whats wrong.
Rebooting didn't help.
Any suggestions?
Sven

DId you upgrade the firmware to the card for the v6 drivers?

Check your AJA Utilities folder.

Aah, thank you Jeremy

I'll have to check that. I didn't upgrade the firmware.

It wasn't mentioned in the "read me first" text which came with the version 6 I think.

Thank you,

Sven

Hi Sven,

Information on firmware updating is contained in the v6.0 Release Notes. As always, if you require any assistance, please contact us!

Thank you,

If I am correctly reading the 6.0 release notes, the LHe card requires no firmware update with 6.0, although the Kona 3 card does.

Hi Larry,

You are correct, the KONA 3 requires the firmware update with version 6.0, not the KONA LHe or LSe. Sorry about that!

In that case it sounds like you haven't setup the proper easy setup once getting to FInal Cut or you have your input set to a secondary format in the control panel.

---"or you have your input set to a secondary format in the control panel."
Thank you Jeremy, I can exclude this but maybe you are right concerning the setup.
After installing version 6.0 I restored my FCP prefs with FCP Rescue 6. So I used exactly the same easy setups as before. I tried my Pal DVCPro50 setup and also tried capturing with a ProRes-setup. None of them worked. But maybe here's the culprit.
From the release notes (I eventually read):
Also, please note that Easy Setups from earlier versions may not work properly in Final Cut
Studio 2 (FCP 6).

Hm, I'll have to check this on monday. I will deinstall the driver, reinstall it and this time I will use the new FCP prefs.
I will make a easy setup from scratch.

So far, thank you very much for your help folks!

That'd be a great place to start.

Solved! Re: Cannot capture with 6.0
by sven giebel on Aug 25, 2008 at 7:41:36 am

Installing version 6.0 changed a tiny little setting inside the capture settings:

Before deinstalling und reinstalling the 6.0 software I took a closer look at the Audio/Videosettings of my Easy Setups. Under the tab "capture" there are the Quicktime video and audiosettings. There is a button in the lower right corner of the Quicktimevideosettings called "advanced" or "more" or "options" (I have the german version). In the following window is the tab "videoinput". Here the size of the incoming videosignal was changed from 625i25 to 720p50 in all my Easy Setups.

Thank you for your help!
