5.1 questions, downmix

Two questions about 5.1.
Also, I just need a check of my settings. If given a professionally mastered 5.1 mix with 6 stems, the audio tab tends to default 6 channels of dual mono to -3 db. Is this a correct level setting for 5.1 layoffs? Or should it be 0 db?
I'm sending the mix to an HDCAMSR. Is there a way to have FCP do a downmix of those to a Lt / Rt, if I wanted to do a second layoff pass to add the stereo mix?

Ann,
I think you are referring to the -3dB for the fold down of the rear surrounds. Compressor does a very good job of folding down a 6 stem 5.1 mix to a stereo LT RT that you can lay off to tape.

Ann,
Set up your 5.1 stems in the appropriate channels in compressor. Then go to presets> Formats> Audio> and choose the AIFF setting you need, for example: AIFF 48:24
