The selected device has no output controls
by Joe Murray on Feb 26, 2008 at 5:57:35 pm

My audio is coming out of my RCA's hot again. Went into> system prefs>sound to turn it back to unity.
When Aja Kona is selected I get "The selected device has no output controls"
I zapped the pram and reinstalled the Kona software & upgraded to 5.1 while I was at it.
No Joy.
Any ideas

Are you talking about your system sounds?

Disable your Kona for system sounds.

All sounds. QT playback, system sound, web sound, FCP sounds. It makes no difference whether I play system sounds through the card or not - but I cant really see why I shouldnt as it is only the RCA's

What I am saying is your should not route your system sounds through your Kona. Make your selected output built-in, not Kona.

Sorry to be dim, but why not?

[Joe Murray] "Sorry to be dim, but why not?"

For the reasons you are experiencing. If you make your system sounds part of your Kona, that means you can control the relative volume of your incoming and outgoing Kona levels with the system volume control. If you want to hear system sounds through your audio monitors, it's best to run a cable out of your headphone jack on your mac and in to your mixer. That way your levels won't be adjusted on the Kona when you want to crank your iTunes, or whatever.
