Could anyone explain how the kona lhe reads and writes timecode. We basically looking to buy a decent hdv deck (sony hvr 1500) and a digibeta deck. Both of which have rs 422 controllers. The idea is everyone in the studio can access and control both devices. Is is possible to send timecode to and read timecode from these devices via the rs422 for tape mastering and batch capturing? If not how should I be doing this?

You can definitely read rs422, but not sure if that deck supports HDV recording via rs422. The Kona is capable of rs422 record deck control though, it just depends on the deck to have the functionality. For example, the 1200 model DVCPro HD deck does not support insert/assemble editing.
Actually a quick search shows you can insert/assemble in DVCam mode, but not in HDV mode.
