Question about AJA and Leopard.

New owner of AJA stuff here. Will this be the place to see when AJA posts
information about compatibility and/or new drivers for Leopard?
Or should I go somewhere on their site?

Yep, there will be a press release from AJA when they are ready. Note that Apple has not released any updates to Studio 2 and Adobe has already announced that After Effects will not be compatible until December.
I'm sure AJA will wait until Apple's Studio updates before releasing their drivers.

to summarize, if you are a new owner of AJA equipment, and you have a MAC Pro that is setup for Leopard, and not an older OS, you will have a LONG WAIT before you use your system - you will need Leopard drivers for your disk drive host card, FCP2, and the AJA stuff. If you had bought ANY OTHER PRODUCT, you would have the same inconvenience.

No, you misunderstood. I've had my setup for the past 30 days. (used to be
Aurora Pipe Studio etc. etc.)
I'm fully aware of the issues related to waiting for new FCP versions and driver
updates to go along with OS and Quicktime changes.
My question was only in regard to the best place to find the info about
when the new stuff is available from AJA. I've also got an email out to Sonnet
with respect to their RAID system we have, the D800, which uses an ATTO card.

Atto has released a driver for Leopard. I received an email from them the day Leopard was released as I own two Atto R380 cards.

It's not like I'm in an all-fire hurry or anything, I was just wonderin.
I have to say however, my KONA 3 works very nicely.
I'm very happy with how FCS2 and your card work together.
I'm a recent HD upgrader from the SD world with Aurora stuff.
35 years in the broadcast biz, so not worried about how long updates take.
It took RCA years to go from Low Band to Hi Band 2inch Quad machines.
Then they tried to make a machine that would lock up in
2 seconds like Ampex. A weird machine called the TR-600 with flying arms
for tape guides. Have I lost almost all of the readers on the forum by now :)
You haven't really edited until you've tried to move 2 inch tape around on
20 pound reels.

I think there are alot of folks here that have never experienced a linear editing system. I have to admit that I didn't get to experience 2 inch.
But I did work for a PBS station in the middle eighties that had top load JVC 3/4" decks, a Sony mixer that one had one effect bank, a Microgen CG, and an RM 440 editor. A-B roll editing meant that you had to push play on both machines and flip the bar on the switcher to dissolve between the two and you had to have someone running the Shure field mixer for audio edits.
So, I do know a thing or two about the good ole days.

In the snow, uphill both ways, blah blah blah...is this where I get to tell my story about strapping on a timecode generator the size of a brick to my camera, plugging it into audio channel 2 and hoping it wouldn't bleed onto channel one, just so we could cut with some hope of a repeatable matchframe edit? Now back to work you old geezers...of which I am becoming one myself...

that is exactly configuration I want to buy...and I have a question for you about it...
Could you please test for me multiple graphic layer (4 or 5 psd or tga with transparency over each other) in fcp if it plays in realTime without rendering (using that for playOUT on beta via rs)...

No, this would not be real time. You have to render anything with
drop shadows or transparencies. One of the shortcomings of FCP.
It doesn't matter how fast your system or Drive array, FCP just won't do
some things real time AT ALL. And even if it plays back the tracks
in real time, you'll still have to render the entire sequence to edit to tape
or make a quicktime to export.
On the positive side, the rendering is much faster now with the 8 core machines. And if you are making a quicktime for internet upload for instance, once you drop that quicktime into Compressor, it will render 4 times faster than before by setting up a virtual cluster on your 8 core. It's amazing to watch it render an h.264
clip now. One that used to take 30 minutes now takes 6.
So it's not all bad, but FCP could really benefit from a new engine for
real time playback that is really real time.
