Playback issues on G5

I have a dual 2ghz G5. Whenever I am in Final Cut, the video and audio will play when I press the space bar. But when I press the space bar again to pause, the last second of audio will repeat over and over again. Aja said this is a common problem and that I may need to update my g5 firmware, but there doesn't seem to be an update for my computer.
Has anyone else had a similar playback problem and could give me some advice?
