Convert 1080i50 to 1080i60
by FCP_Toby on Jun 1, 2007 at 5:17:28 pm

I have 600 Gigabytes of P2 MXF files that were accidentally shot at 1080i50. I can use Apple Compressor to convert to 1080i60, but it will take a couple weeks. Currently editing on a machine with Kona LHE. Does anyone know of a quicker solution?

There's Nattress Standards Conversion www.nattress.com . It will still take a while.

Why not post in 1080i50 and then do one big conversion at the end?

Doesn't work. We tried it and even emailed Graeme about it. That's SD only, the HD conversion is completely different.

Compressor 3 can supposedly do it, but I have not tried it.

I think I will edit in 1080i50, but I have a lot of SD stock and some additional 1080i60 material to use as well, so there will definitely be some rendering going on somewhere.

An Apple Pro tech suggested upgrading to FCP 6 which would allow all formats and frame rates to exist on the same timeline. Has anyone tried this yet?

Hmm, I thought that it worked from a post a while ago from him to you.

Maybe he lied?

Hmmm, when we tried it earlier this year it did not work and I even asked him for advice to convert 1080i/50 to 60 at the time. Maybe he's made improvements to it or something.

Edit the entire show in 1080i/50 and then send it to a post house like PostWorks in New York to convert to 1080i/60 at the end. No issues with that workflow at all. We cut a show in 1080i/60 and have PostWorks convert to 1080i/50 for us right now.

The new Compressor can supposedly do this but I have not tried it.
