Re: Connect KONA LHe to a LCD monitor for viewing? by Bob Zelin on Aug 2, 2006 at 7:48:59 pm
What a shame you have the Apple Cinema displays. You could buy the AJA HDP for about $800 to drive one of the Cinema displays, but if you simply buy a Dell 2407FPW, that has analog component input, you can take the Y Pb Pr signal of of the LHe, and feed that right into the Dell monitor (the HP L2335 does the same thing, but it's $999). If you had a Kona 3 and K3 Box, you could take the Y Pb Pr from the K3 box and drive the dell or the HP directly as well, with no AJA converter.

AVID recommends using the HP L2335 for all AVID Nitris systems. Electronic Arts (the video game people) bought 150 Dell 2405FPW. The Apple Cinema was the first, but to me, they are the bottom of the barrel right now. I am sure that plenty of people on this forum will disagree with me. AJA usually recommends the Sony SDM-P234b or the Apple Cinema display.

Probably not the best response on my part, but, they should be GREAT. I just bought two 2007WFP and they look beautiful!! Lower resolution, and probably no where near what you'll see with the 2407, but this is my 4th Dell monitor and I have no complaints to date.
Two BIG advantages over the ACD is the price (currently on sale at Dell.com) and multiple inputs!!
BOB.... what do you do for sync??? I was thinking of adding a 5th Dell for a client monitor (2407). What I'm seeing now with the 2007 is a slight frame delay...maybe 5 frames or so? Wouldn't the AJA converter fix this for LCD's??
