Approved configuration
by Simmie on Aug 2, 2006 at 8:56:37 am

Hi folks,

Is there somewhere on the AJA website that lists the current approved system configuration for the Kona card?

You know the thing - what OS version is approved, which quicktime version is approved, etc. I found one but it doesn't seem to reference OS 10.4 at all.

Thanks,

Unlike most vendors, AJA is pretty much up to the latest and greatest when it comes to Apple Updates.

Definitely got us beat there! We just have the Xbox 360 on a 42" plasma screen.

Ah, good to know. Our 2 G5's are about to loose their Cinewave cards and gain Kona LH cards so I just wanted to check what seems to be working for everybody.

It may be nice having all those consoles - but I never have time to play on them!

Excellent choice. We replaced our CineWave's two years ago or so with Kona 2's and now we've got two K2 systems and a K3 system. I'm running the very latest updates on our K3 system and it's performing just fine.

Be sure to download the latest drivers & Control Panel from the AJA website for the LH, don't use the one on the CD that comes with the board.

The Control Panel works very much like the Preference Panel from the CineWave. This is where you set up your video input and output so be sure to look over how that operates before you really get into editing. The Control Panel is where most new Kona users get tripped up.

As for gaming, my father-in-law and I try to do two game nights a month so at least I get some time on the darn thing. But usually it's the clients who get free reign of the games.

Hey Simmie,
Welcome to KonaLH! I made the same move late last year. The one thing you WILL miss coming from Cinewave is the input/output options.
If you can swing it, match the AJA IO/LA with the LH.

I've been running the LH for broadcast and corporate pretty sucessfully for a while. I also have all of the latest Apple updates for FCP Studio (5.0.4, not 5.1 universal), Quicktime, and OSX.

Enjoy.

Ron

Thanks for the comments. The new "lead free solder" regulations here in the UK are holding up our cards a wee bit, but we hope to be up and running in a few weeks...
