Hi

When i capture a video clip using vtr exchange i dont get the timecode in my qt. this may be normal but i would think it would keep the tc with the
clip.

I tried both the kona 8 bit settings as well as dvcpro50

i would like to get tc in my captures, as i can capture using vtr exchange, and log in fcp at the same time

Hello,

VTR Xchange does indeed capture timecode. Are you connected to a deck via RS-422, and performing a "Capture" in VTR Xchange?

You must perform a "Capture" because RS422 doesn't work like firewire - you've got to have active control to get code. If you set in and out points and do a "Capture" instead of "Capture Now" (if that's what you are doing) you will get code.

If this is not your workflow, or other problems are occuring, please feel free to contact our support department.

Thank you,

Thanx

the application sees the timecode, as i can mark in and out in the vtr exchange window
When i go to do a capture, not capture now, the deck prerolls and then stops in pause and nothing else happens
thats why i was doing capture now.

I am using a Kona LH and controlling via rs422, through a TAO L-Port, to a Sony M10U.

the L-Port takes the rs422 and translates it to LANC which, other than firewire, is the only way to control the M10U

the tape is HDV, but i am downconverting to SD and capturing it Analog component into the Kona LH

Maybe that is the problem

I think that VTR exchange needs to be getting a real time RS422 response that it is not getting from the serial to firewire to serial connection in an amount of time it expects so it sees it as a failure or lack of serial control.

that would be my first guess.

hey gary!

when ya comin back to the twin cities?? saw ya at a demo for fcp 4 at digital pictures a while ago

but other than that...you may be right as well... fcp can capture using the same setup, but maybe vtr exchange isnt up to it

you would appreciate this: my goal is to capture whole tapes with tc using vtr exchange, then sub clipping them in fcp. If i shut off all my kona stuff in fcp, i can log while digiitizing, just not on the same media. BUT since kona lh can only drive decks via rs 422, i need the L-PORT cuz the (**&&^$& M10U isnt rs 422.

Hey Bob

I was at DP in Feb. talking about the Kona 3, I do not have anything scheduled yet, but we are working on something for the early fall time frame however. ( and I get points for going to the twin cities in feb too.!)

My guess is that the VTR exchange has a lot less tolerance towards errors in the serial connection than FCP does. IT has too so that it works with the new 2K capture on the K3. FCP is quite sloppy with it's tolerances for that kind of connection.
