Using Kona LS going component in and using RS422 I am trying to Assemble edit and FCP will not allow me to do it......the options are 'greyed off' and will not select. Using Sony DSR 45.
Has anyone else had this problem? Someone has told me that they think even though the deck has RS422, that this particular model will not allow you to use RS422 for insert or assembly editing. This seems ridiculous but anything is possible....

The DSR-45 has no flying erase heads. It is a player that can record, but cannot edit. Same with the Panasonid AJ-SD93, and the $25,000 Panasonic AJ-HD1200A HD VTR. Same with the Sony HDV-S280 HDV VTR for $40,000.
Want to edit - buy the DSR1500 or DSR-1800. Yes, they are more money.
