 | Block size settings for a SATA RAID
by David Smith on Nov 30, 2005 at 3:28:03 pm |
Hello All,
I'm setting up a RAID using (so far) four Hitachi 250gig eSATA drives and a Sonnet eSATA controller. When setting up the drives via software into a RAID, what block size settings would you experts use, considering that the storage will be used for digital video?
I've searched the web, including the Cow forums, and am finding some conflicting information on this topic, so I would greatly appreciate your opinions and experiences.
Thank you very much for your assistance!
Regards,
David

I believe that huge selects 2k for the block size.

Keep in mind that the 2K block size that Huge is unusually, well, huge. Moreover, if you are using Apple Drive Utility, we have performed a bunch of tests with it and found very little difference.
In general, smaller chunks are better for audio, especially ProTools, which is very sensitive.
