Capturing results in SUB-CLIPS in browser - Final Cut Studio, Tiger, and KONA 2
by GForget on Oct 6, 2005 at 4:13:24 pm

Until recently, we had been editing our HD footage using our dual 2.5GHz G5s with Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) and the AJA KONA2 Capture card using the HDSDI out of a Panasonic 1200A Deck. This configuration had been working flawlessly.

We recently upgraded to OS X 10.4.2, and Final Cut Studio (FCP ver 5).

Now, when we try to capture video using the FCP easy setup for (KONA2 720p 59.94 DVCPro HD), the computer cues the footage, and captures it, but when the capture finishes, we end up with a sub-clip icon in the browser. When we try to open this sub-clip in the viewer, it shows nothing there. The footage, however, is captured to the capture scratch. The only work around we have is to delete the sub-clip from the browser and re-import the clips file.

We have noticed that this problem does not occur if we capture using a capture now. This has been another option for us to use as a work around, but this just isn

Welcome to Quicktime 7.0.2

this is a known issue in the QT upgrade ( it however worked properly in QT 7.0.1) there is a long thread with walter and I - go back a couple of weeks on this board and you will see it, and the solution.

Actually, here the issue is limited only to 720p 8 or 10bit uncompressed captures. HD-SDI captures which are set to DVCPro HD do not have that problem here.

And the problem has existed in all forms of QT 7 here. QT 7.0.1 did not fix the problem as advertised.

I did read the other post from a couple of weeks ago, and the problem appeared very similar, but it I did note that their problem was with the uncompressed 720p and not using the KONA 2 setting for DVCPro HD.

I also tried on what was suggested on there about having a clean load of the operating system. That takes quite a while to perform, and we continue to experience the same problem.

I have contacted AJA support, and they told me they are aware of the problem, but they are not sure it is an issue with their software. They said perhaps it was Apple's problem.

So, I showed the problem to a Rep from Apple who was here... he didn't seem to know what to do about it... so he had me write out exactly what was happening, and he is forwarding it on to others at Apple who may know what to do about the problem.

I was waiting (and am still) on a response from them... I decided to post here as well to see if someone else perhaps has already experience this problem and found a solution.

I'll pass on any info I get back, if any!!
