Screensaver Freezing up ever since installation of Kona 2

Not sure if it's because of the Kona 2, but my screensaver keeps freezing up after I leave the computer unattended for 10 or 15 minutes (all my icons and finder items disappear) just the desktop image is viewable. It's been happening ever since I installed the board 2 nights ago. No other upgrades have taken place in that time and I have not altered my system preferences at all. I have to force shotdown and restart the whole system in order to work again. PLease help?

Have you repaired permissions? Or you can change the default for the Kona 2 board from Mac Desktop to Black to stop it from projecting the desktop out on the monitor. If you don't need that function, you can just change it to black.

About the only weirdness i have is that I generally have to log in to my machine twice upon startup whenever the K2 board is set to project the Mac Desktop out to the NTSC monitor. I log in, the desktop appears briefly, then the G5 kicks me back out to the Login screen. I know it's Kona related because this only happens when the Mac desktop is selected on the K2.

I think it was happening because I set up 2 cables out of the Kona 2 into the K box before connecting to the deck. By the way, I'm having a new problem. Again because I'm so new to this. I just configured a Beta SP deck to the Kona 2 without the K Box and I have deck control but no video signal. All the cables I received with the Kona 2 and K box are all serial digital, does that mean I can't hook it up to a Beta SP deck. I did receive one set of component cables but they are only into the NTSC monitor, out of the Kona 2.
In order to get video from the Beta SP to the G5 I would have to order a set of component cables and run them through the K box to the G5?

How can one not smile at this post, with all of the posts about conversion of Beta VTR's. The AJA Kona 2 DOES NOT HANDLE ANALOG COMPOSITE OR COMPONENT. You should have purchased an AJA I/O, AJA I/O LA, or AJA Kona LS.

The Kona 2 is an HDSDI or SDI product ONLY, and the component output is there for monitoring the output of the Kona 2 on an older analog component monitor. YOU HAVE THE WRONG PRODUCT for your application.

You can either return your Kona 2, and buy the right stuff, or you can buy AJA converters that will convert analog component and analog audio to SDI and AES/EBU audio. Believe me, this will be way too expensive for you to do, when you can simply resolve all of your problems with a nice AJA I/O LA box for $995.

Should have asked someone before you bought this product.

Thanks for the advice. All things considered I think I'll stick with the Kona 2, looking ahead to be able to handle SDI/HDI jobs. This Beta SP job just happened to be the first job with this new system. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep learning.

Simply purchase the AJA I/O LA for $995, and you will be able to do everything.

Hey Bob,
Not starting an argument, but I reject this statement.
I think people should buy what they need now and into the future. If anything, you should buy something that's going to grow with you.

When I bought my Cinewave 4 years ago, I was editing weddings and corporate events...DV ONLY!!! People said, isn't that overkill for what you do? Why yes it is!! But only 2 years later I was editing commercials for broadcast, an HD PSA for air, and now a TV series. So I think your workflow now and into the future should dictate what you buy....unless you enjoy buying equipment every 6 months.

Thank you very much for this post. I am in a similar situation where I work for a large variety of clients, from DV to HD and everything in between. From weddings to sports banquets to corporate and broadcast. This variety has given me the ability to afford a great number of tools for my system and has kept me looking to the future for bigger and better things. In addition to the Kona 2 I just purchased the io LA and I love it and now can work for any client and in any format that is required.
