Replace Raid with firewire??
by Jack Morgan on Apr 24, 2008 at 5:42:27 pm

Floh... Is it possible to replace the raid with a fire wire drive ? Looking for a cheap fix until the FInal Cut system is in place... The band width seems to be there... or is the 844x hardware wire to work only off SCSI? Thanks, Jack

The 844/X software is looking for video drives on a special PCI-bus only, so I think you are out of luck with FireWire. Additionally, if the 844/X does not get its video data in time it will not be happy. Unfortunately you would not only get performance warnings, but you could expect system freezes and crashes, so I think it would not be a good idea to try this.

Floh, thank you for your quick response... we did try it just to see what would happen and you are right it does not like it. I will have to look for an economical SCSI solution. Thanks again for being out there! Jack
