need help converting lego studios video files

so i'm trying to import my lego studio's video files from my PC to my mac, but so far the only program that can read the files IS the lego studio's program; which is hella buggy and horribly compresses my finished movies. i called up pinnacle and they were no help.
so this is it in a nut shell. i need a program that will read these files and convert them. they are .avi files, but when i play them in VLC player it's like there's nothing there.
