Kernel Extension Igniter.kext did NOT load! HELP!!!
by Catama Productions on Aug 28, 2007 at 6:10:48 pm

I had to re-install my OS after upgrading Quicktime. The new OS did not recognize my AUrora Igniter card so I installed Aurora Igniter software. IWhen I opened Igniter in Systems Preferences it said
"kernel extension Igniter.kext did NOT load!"
I saw a posting from February with the same problem and the suggestion was to repair permissions on the Mac HD which I did after uninstalling Igniter and after repairing permissions re-installing Igniter software. Still no luck.

Dual 2.5 Ghz Power PC G5 OS10.4.10

This workied fine until now. ANYHELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED as I cannot find anything on the web or Cow about this and of course, deadlines are looming. THANKS

Igniter drivers 6.4.4 might not work with 10.4.10?
did you upgrade the OS from an earlier version when you reinstalled your system?
Also the latest Quicktime version could be the reason?

Only solution I could recommend is that you have to go back to a OS version that you know was working with the Igniter drivers.

It was the same OS that we were running before and worked very well. When I upgraded Quicktime the computer started having troubles - for 1 Quicktime no longer worked. I reinstalled the same OS and Ingniter disappeared. When I Installed igniter I get the error and now I have no Igniter. I have tried downloading other versions of the software in case my CD was corrupt but got the same results.
???

but this sounds like the quicktime upgrade is the problem. you should revert to the quicktime version that was working fine. unfortunately this could mean that you have to rebuild your system completely. but check the apple support pages, sometimes when a certain quicktime version causes trouble they list a way to revert back to an earlier version.

sorry for the hassle, but I think because igniter drivers are not updated anymore, one shouldn't update a working igniter machine in any shape or form.

I had the same problem a few months ago. Everything was working fine, then one day it didn't. It was the same setup I'd been using for months.

I tried upgrading drivers, swapping card slots, etc. With looming deadlines, eventually I gave up and rendered my existing projects to DV50.

It's a pity, because the Aurora MJPEG-A codec is a very good codec. But now that Apple doesn't support it, I have no choice but to go with what Apple recommends.

I haven't pulled the card out as yet, but I've noticed the Igniter has worked a few times since. But not enough to ever rely on it again. Very strange.

did you run a hardware test on the card? you should have received 2 dongles for the connectors on the card. read the manual to see how to run the test. maybe your igniter card is dying?

I just bought an AJA card. I think Aurora is down for the count and I can't take the time to fix. If anyone needs an igniter card with breakout box you are welcome to it!
Thnaks for all your help.
