well it looks like Aurora is history :-(
the website is empty now and only the ftp/public is still working (http://www.auroravideosys.com/pub/?M=A)
guess if you need any drivers be quick....
All pretty sad.
Only wondering why they never made any public announcements???

All their products on the Aurora purchase page are listed with an "out of stock" description - What direction are people going to take, and how long do we have before the current drivers become obsolete? I've been following the AJA forum here at the 'Cow, and the users seem devoted and pleased with the product line. Since I have a G5 with the older pci x slots, it looks like I'm going to need a new tower and storage as well.

This is very sad to me. I believe in Aurora and their products are top shelf, but they got caught being thirs in a very competitve business.
I am pretty sure that Aurora is at best down to a one man operation. The best thing that could happen is that the company sell some core technology to AJA (codecs, etc) and maybe come up with a deal to have AJA make the fuse to support the past users of that product (many sound houses).

Hi David,
I agree - it is a sad day. If I could ask your advice on this - do you think it's best to buy another cap. card, now or is it safe to wait awhile? Also, do you feel comfortable making some suggestions?

If it aint broke, don't fix it. I would suggest using your current hardware until it no longer serves your needs. If you're not doing HD yet and you're still using a PCI-X machine, go ahead and continue on with the Aurora products. At some point however, you'll need to do HD in which case I would recommed going with an AJA product. This would most likely require you to purchase a new computer and all the necessary add-ons. Keep earning money with your current investment. New hardware won't make you a better editor.
We switched "most" of our machines to Kona 2's and Kona 3's, but not all. We still have a Pipe Studio in use. It's still the best all-around SD capure card for FCP out there.

Looks like I'm gonna need a new forum to host! I too am a big fan of the Pipe Studio. Work horses for us for several years. Most of our work is still SD so we will be using these for a while. Nice product...love the interceptor...clients get a kick out of it.
