New Pipe studio no audio in or out

New Pipe studio no audio in or out
by Mark on Jun 30, 2005 at 6:09:05 am

I've owned an igniterX in my G4 for 3 yrs and loved the performance.
Had to keep up with the Jones' and recently got a G5.
discovered I needed the new cap card as well. Took the advice of
aurora support and this board and went with the Pipe studio pro
to work with my BOB from the igniter. I am able to see
and capture video but no audio in or out. I've tried just about every
combination of sound preference pane selections with aurora pref pane
selections with FCP 4.5 A/V selections with fingers crossed and no
audio. Now lets take care of some basics.

G5 dual 2gig, Tiger 10.4.1, QT 7.0.1, FCP 4.5
Pipe studio driver 4.1.1, firmware 1.6

My work flow is as follows. Beta deck component and XLR balanced in out.
I know that from the BOB cable back to mixer and deck is working fine because
just to double check it I reattached it to the igniter in the G4 and sound is
there as it has always been.

I reseated the Pipe card in a different PCI slot in the G5 just for kicks but nothing.

The Aurora AV preference pane audio balanced audio outs are set to Analog
The system preferences Sound pain Output has been tried at both "Aurora
Audio Output" and "Headphones....Built-in Audio.
The FCP Audio/Video settings pane, A/V devices tab in audio selection has been tried at
both the Aurora Audio Output and built-in audio
I have a previous clip with clear strong audio to test with in FCP viewer and timeline.
I can hear it in the headphone jack when built-in audio is selected so I know FCP
is playing it but nothing still out of AAO selection.

Capture has been tested all kinds of ways as well.

What have I missed?? Was there a jumper? A din?

I did read the Pipe Manual PDF though a bit atiquated.

Some notes. I switched the Aurora preference pane Balanced option to AES/EBU
just for kicks and heard constant low digital noise and hiss out of the left speaker
only when the timeline plays something with audio
I checked the RCA outs with headphones and got the same as the balanced.
The card sends an audio pop to the speakers when the computer boots,
shuts down or sleeps.

If someone has a similar setup what are the working pane selections
for the system preferences pane 'sound' selections and the FCP output
selections.

Thanks for any help with what will probably turn out to be an embarrassing
error on my part.

I have a similar problem with my IgniterX on Tiger : no audio In and can't capture uncompressed 10 bits video :P
Did u try on FCP 5?

I project to back to 10.3.9 with old IgniterX driver or switch on a Kona LS

In the Audio/Video settings click on your capture preset to open the editing window. Under the QuickTime Audio Settings click the Device drop down and select none. Then do it again and select Aurora Video Input. Then select your input selections as per your card and sample rate.

I will test it this week-end, I think you have right cos I was in the bad audio setting (unbalanced/balanced audio choice), I made the good setting in Tiger/Sound panel but I didn't know that FCP has this own setting for the sound. I hope all will work now.

thanks for your input Michael

Hey Michael, i tested, Its work, but I can't more control sound level input (its default to maximun), when I try to decrease in OSX sound panel and back to capture, FCP put it again on maximun, its very worry. In apple quicktime or Soundtract Pro, impossible to capture something (Soundtrack pro doesn't allow me to select the good sound channel).
In aurora MediaGrabX I have success, I can all capture and set the sound level.

In final, all 10 bits video capture no work in all apps (FCP, MediaGrabX), its broken in IgniterX/Tiger definitely :(
its a real bug of the card.

I can capture via MediaGrabX with all control, so its ok for me now.

Thanks
