ok this one is a long story dating back to well know compatibility problems. me, being stupid, made things worse.
[G5 (dual 1.8), osx 10.4.11, fcp 4.5, Itunes 7 and a messed up version of quicktime somewhere between 6 and 7.5.]
Needing to fix the "unable to connect to background process" error in compressor I was using pacifist to replace components of qt 7.5 with components from 6. This worked for my capture problem so i thought it would be worth a try.
I now have no audio playback of H264 videos (video without audio no error messages) in I tunes and quicktime. quicktime dose not show audio levels either. also FCP will not recognise the (h264) files as a compatable file format.
I have tried to revert or re install 7.5 with no luck.
I do not want to re install my opperating system.
are there any components, frameworks, plugins, patches or anything that could change out to fix this. maybee a program file is looking in the wrong place, and if so how would i fix that...

I don't think you should have gone to Quicktime 7 at all with FCP 4.5. Can't even remember what the last qualified QT was with that version, but with older software, you need to stick with older components all the way around. Never update your machine to absolute current conditions when you're running older software.
