After unsuccessfully trying to search for a solution, I'm turning to the cow for some info. Cutting on a Mac Pro 8-core with FCP studio 2. We are working with footage captured as NTSC D1 29.97 in ProRes HQ - timeline settings matches the captured footage. Footage looks great when playing back cuts-only. But as soon as a graphic or transition is added (and rendered), the footage appears to become deinterlaced - or drops a field. The timeline is set for bottom field interlaced. Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I'm stumped. I can't understand why the quality would drop so dramatically.

When I mentioned Bottom, I was referring to the "advanced" setting in the codec dialog. I missed the field dominance in the sequence settings. I set it to lower and voila - rendered fine. Lesson learned. Don't forget to set the field dominance in an interlaced timeline (too many progressive projects lately).
