So I've cloned my system drive and am bracing myself to 'software update' for the first time in months..... What could possibly go wrong?!?!
Well, apart from the time, no doubt late at night, spent getting the clone back to the MacPro: nothing.... But for the sake of a quick post, I thought I'd ask of other's experience getting the latest updates from Apple. I'm currently running QT 7.4.5, FCP 6.0.3 and OS X 10.5.2 on a dual-quad core 3gHz machine... With no problems at all.... So why do I want to update????? It's the geek within that's been stamped on for so long! I've seen others saying that all is well but I just can't resist asking anyway!! :)
Any thoughts gratefully acknowledged and I'll post any issues I get as a courtesy to others.

I am current with no issues ('cept an AVID codec needed for delivery, not yet up to speed - DNx).
I too feel safely guarded with a clone.
If I'm not mistaken there are at least 1 security fix in the OS. I like to stay as current as possible, especially when security fixes are included.
Other features I can't really comment on for sure, I think a few added codecs or compatibility and some minor fixes is all you'll notice.
Do you have an AJA HD? IF so, I think one of the last 2 updates required a patch from them. I luckily heard about it on the cow prior to updating and saved myself a lot of troubleshooting.
Update with the confidence that if anything goes wrong, you can always go back to your working system rather easily.
