conforming 720p 50 to 25fps
by Richard Sutcliffe (pom_boarder) on Jul 20, 2008 at 10:12:08 pm

Hi all,

A couple of years ago I had a workflow for conforming 50p footage to 25fps using P2log pro and cinema tools (slo-mo with the sound retained). I haven't used it since FCP6 came out and it looks like the feature has been hamstrung?

I just tried to conform some P2 clips which were wrapped with log and transfer and cinema tools gave an error - something along the lines of clip has temporal compression?

I then tried it on my laptop which has FCS5.x and cinema tools had no problems. Anyone else experience this?

Does anyone have an efficient workflow for this using FCS6.x? If nyone can suggest a way to conform footage which has been put through raylight, all the better!

Thanks in advance

Have you confirmed in the Browser that the clips in question are in fact DVCPro HD, and weren't erroneously converted to something else?

Thanks Dave,

Yes, definately DVCPROHD. To my knowledge you cant convert using log and transfer. P2logpro exports as DVCPROHD. Raylight wraps as DVCPROHD too.

I'm confused by the fact that it still works in 5.x but not in 6.x.

I was hoping to make extensive use of the conform for a sports show and now I'm having to find a workaround.

well, this works

in Raylight set the target framerate to 50fps, open clips or batch conform in cinema tools to 25fps - hey presto. Slo-mo.

What doesn't work is to import into FCP and open in Cinema tools. But why would I want to go through the hassle of log and transfer anyway. In just a few seconds I can have a full speed and slo-mo version of each clip.
