De-interlace question
by Chris Holland on Jul 20, 2008 at 5:09:15 pm

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I used to have a canon xm2 and when I brought my video into fcp I would apply a de-interlace filter to my films which I really liked as it made it look more filmic. I know this is probably not a good idea for some people but I really preferred it.
Now I have a sony FX1 and didn't realize it had a 24 frame mode and shot in 25 frame mode. Now when I apply the de-interlace filter it doesn't seem to have any effect like it did with my xm2. Am I being really dumb here?
Is there any other way I could get the 24 frame look having already shot in 25?

Thanks :)

Chris

[Chris Holland] "Now I have a sony FX1 and didn't realize it had a 24 frame mode"

The FX1 does not have a true 24 frame mode, it's a pretty funky simulated 24frame look with pretty ugly strobing. No one that owns the FX1 and Z1 cameras uses it...

If your heart is set on deinterlacing, try Compressor's frame controls, but avoid the deinterlace filter in Compressor.

Yea it did look pretty ugly!
Okay so you mean convert to 24 frames when converting with compressor?
Do you have any idea why the de-interlacer filter worked on the sd material and not the hd?

Thanks

Maybe because the field order wasn't set correctly? DV is lower field first and HDV is upper first. Might be worth checking.

Hi Don,
Yes I already tried that and it doesn't make any difference, it's baffling me.
