Just wandering if anyone knows if Apple is going to release Blue Ray DVD burners for a G5 Quad. I asked an associate at the Mac store, but they were clueless. Any information would help. Thanks

Considering that is the case. The only option I can think of is to create a Quicktime file in HD format onto a removable disk and take it to someone that has a Blu Ray Burner. Are there external Blu Ray burners out there that I can transfer via firewire from the G5 to. I am just getting started in HD that is why the question.

I know you mean Mac Pro when you say G5, easy to mix up considering they look almost identical!! I don't believe you were asking for clarification on the name of your computer.

Victor, for all the details do a search on Blue ray...
Basically you can install the Pioneer Blu Ray burner, but the Mac will treat it like a DVD burner, You will need Toast 9 or Encore to burn Blue Ray. And Apple does not support play back of Blu Ray movies, yet.

Victor,
I would imgaine that you've probably watched many Hollywood movies that were were not on Blu-Ray that looked great. Right? So, just make a widescreen SD DVD from your HD source. It'll look fantastic and everyone will be very impressed. Just wait a while on the whole Blu-Ray thing and you'll be a whole lot happier.
Good luck...

Thanks for all your advice. I was not trying to put down Apple. In fact after converting to Apple Final Cut studio, I would never go back to Adobe. Adobe on my PC's always crashed and cost me many man hours to fix. All I was trying to find out was about Blue Ray. Thanks for all your advice.

Then perhaps you should walk into an Apple store, stamp your feet, and shout at the top of your lungs, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!".

Apple stopped caring about customers a long time ago...1) when they realized people need their products and they have a monopolistic-like control over it 2) when Apple computers became a hip item, no longer is the working professional a concern of theirs.
They have a vision of the future and they are going to force its users to accept it...Just like they force professionals to buy an over-priced 'mac'chine for $5,000 when it shouldn't be priced above $1,500.

[rich krysz] Apple stopped caring about customers a long time ago...
I'm starting to believe the same. In place where I live with only one Apple Centre, they decided to
move their shop to new and flashy shopping centre and they decided to close their service department.
If one needed a service, he'd have to send his Mac to their main shop in Melbourne, which means
4- 5 days without machine, whilst before, it was a one day job, sometime on the spot.
Now their Center looks like any other mobile phone shop - iPods, accessories and now iPhone.

No need to stamp your feet, just walk away with your feet.
If they are nor listening, go get Adobe, if Encore is solution, and we are already using After Effects,
Photoshop, few more winners on Premire's side and that's it - complete solution in Adobe.
Are you listening Mr Jobs.
That's right, we know what has become a main concern for them, share price and growth, of course,
but where is the time when Apple was leading in innovation; first to put burner in their machines,
first to add USB, first to add firewire, first to add DVD burning.
It looks like (as many of us were afraid of) we are paying for success of iPod, iTunes and iPhone,
we are to small market segment. We can easily be ignored.
It's said Apple, after all those years of loyal support.

LOL, - Before NAB 2008 someone representing Apple called me and asked what Apple products I use and would I like to provide some feedback. Of course she was reading from a script and probably had no idea what the hell I was talking about. At least my Apple does not crash and screw up projects like my 4 other PC based editing systems did. I am really glad I went to Apple - it just irkes me that I have to "fallback"
and use something like Encore to produce a Blu-Ray. The future may be downloading. But my reality today and probably the next few years is dealing with clients that are PC based and can only view low-res WMV files on their crappy PC laptops. Of course they all drool when they see 1080p files playing on my monitor. I have converted some to the MAC. I walked into a clients office the other day and he was viewing the last edit I sent him on a shiny new 17" MacBook Pro. There is still hope.

Are you still using Apple computers? If so, why?

Because i need it. Windows is horrible. I like Final Cut Studio...many jobs require you to use Final Cut and Final Cut is becoming more and more common over other systems (like Avid). At least where I am.
So I do hope iPhones and iPods will go out of favor one day.
And I hope Psystar wins the lawsuit.
And I hope Apple stops behaving like Microsoft once did. (Jobs may have a bigger head than Gates ever did.) The arrogance is alarming. Especially in their pricing, their refusal to admit some serious quality flaws here and there, and finally their refusal to give what customers want in some cases.
