monitoring DVCPRO HD via FireWire
by Joshua Pardon on Jul 18, 2008 at 2:20:19 am

Hello--

I am editing a DVCPRO HD 720p60 project in FCP6. I have Firewire 400 going out of my Mac to a Panasonic AG-DV2500 miniDV deck. Composite Video and Left/Right Audio go out of this deck and into an NTSC Preview monitor (a JVC TM-H150C). This is the setup I have used for years to edit SD DV projects.

Here's the problem: When I play the 720p60 FCP sequence, I get motion footage on my computer monitor but not on my NTSC monitor. I only get a still frame from the footage output from FCP to my NTSC monitor - no motion footage!

Can anyone suggest a workaround? Or am I out of luck?

Thanks-

Joshua

If you have an SD deck and an SD monitor, you can't view an HD signal.

Correct. To view DVCPRO HD via firewire, you need a DVCPRO HD deck. DV decks only work for DV.

You could also use an Io HD from Aja or a V4HD from MOTU.
