Bear in mind that the Animation codec has a high data rate...you will need a fast RAID to play these back. Talking uncompressed HD 10-bit data rate here. The Animation codec wasn't meant for playback and editing, it was meant as a lossless codec for making graphics with alpha channels and keeping footage lossless between applicaitons and platforms.

If your using FCP6, when you drop your first clip into a sequence it will ask if you want to match the sequence settings to the clip settings.
If your not using FCP6, you will need to figure out what the settings are for your clips and create a sequence to match. If you right click on the clip in your browser and select Item Properties > Format you find the info you need.

FCP uses a different render path to the normal RT engine when an Animation codec sequence is selected. This will mean that a different image has to be rendered for the external monitor and the canvas window that is why you will see stuttering and or a lag.

when I start a new project it asks "select sequence preset" do i just pick anyone?
Then when I drag the animation clip in the sequence it will change the settings to match?

Ok I think I got it.
Strange but it works. I made a sequence with the apple pro res seetings, then when I added a new clip with animation settings it was fine. So the preset doesn't really matter I guess? Then why ask me what setting I what?
