Archive with Media Manger?

Hi everyone,
I have just media managed a project file which goes for about 4 mins and there about 3 tapes worth of original footage that I have captured.
My problem is that when I use media manager it cuts down project from about 34GB to 15GB, when I know it should come out as about 4GB. It seems to capture pretty much all of my tapes, most of which is not used in my project, which of course defeats the whole purpose of media managing.
If anyone has encountered this problem or can help I would be grateful.
