Some P2 footage missing?
by Katrina Mann on Jul 9, 2008 at 11:34:49 pm

Three times now my director is positive something has been shot that I can't for the life of me find. I thought she was mistaken the first time but now I'm nervous about my process.

What I am doing is pulling my P2 folders, which include Contents and Last Clip, into the Log and Transfer window. Then I name and drag all clips to the que. I can see that every clip that made it into the L&T window is making it into the project, in its entirety. I didn't load the drives, the AC did, I'm just dragging the files in.

Is there something I'm missing or some way I can look deeper?

Thank you,
Katrina

Confirm with the camera operator...see if they remember. The only way clips can go missing really is if they are deleted in camera...or in the Log and Transfer window. And yes, you can delete clips in the log and transfer window...if you click on the clip and press DELETE, it will delete it from the card, or the back up drive...and that is dangerous. Although it does put up a warning.

Ok, I hope to God I didn't delete anything from the L&T window, though we have copied drives in storage.

Thank you very much!

It is extremely common for directors to think that they shot an extra take, included a setup that didn't happen, some variation of dialog or which hand a prop was in, etc.
