Should I use the advanced pulldown removal for my 24p footage?
by Hedia Maron on Jul 7, 2008 at 10:11:10 pm

I have about 60 tapes I've captured to FCP using the capture preset for DVNTSC, the footage was shot on a Panasonic DVX100A camera in the 24p mode so no advanced pulldown was needed in the initial capture.

My question is whether I should now go through and remove the advanced pulldown to be able to edit on a 23.98 timeline or whether I should leave the footage as is and edit on a 29.97 timeline? My final output will be to tape and will be used for festivals and possibly broadcast. What are the advantages of editing at 23.98 vs. 29.97 and does it matter if I'm not going to transfer to film?

Any work flow tips will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

If you will be delivering an SD master at 29.97 (since SD tapes don't run at 23.98) then stick with what you got. No reason to reverse telecine.
