Final Cut Pro 2 perf PAL Cinema Tools
by Rochelle Oshlack on Jul 7, 2008 at 7:20:47 am

Has anyone successfully produced EDLS for a feature shot on 2 perf 35mm?

I know AVID can count the keycodesand timecodes ok but can CINEMA TOOLS?

Shooting 24fps 2 perf.
Transfer 25fps to Digibeta for digitising.
Cut in 24fps DV PAL
Produce a 25fps EDL for Digital Intermediate.

thanks in advance for any help

Rochelle

Cinema Tools doesn't support 2 perf. In your scenario it isn't a problem, because for DI you should be fine with EDL instead of cut list. Most scanners support 2 perf. Just make sure you set up FCP for 24@25 timecode and conform all your footage from 25 fps to 24 in FCP project, not in Cinema Tools.

Great to know thanks for info.
I thought it might prevent me from generating neg pull list for VFX scans but my post house just informs me that I can use an EDL for this as well.
This is all great news.

Hi Joni,
We are just finishing up on our 2 perf feature. Commenced our film scanning this week.
We had no issues as yet with the 2 perf. Only lots of hairs in the gate in the first few days shoot and mag jams but nothing that directly effects editorial.

We haven't needed to use Cinema Tools as we created EDLs with all our sequences set at 24@25.
We are in Australia working in PAL so I'm assuming their is an NTSC equivalent.

To summarise: we telecine at 25fps, edit at 24fps and produce EDLs at 25fps for scanning.

hope that helps in some way Joni.
regards
Rochelle
